How do I set up my DNS records? Imprimir

Our free service includes taking care of setting up and configuring all DNS records for you. These DNS records will only be needed if your domain name is not under our management.

To set your DNS to point to your server, we recommend the following settings for domains where both the root domain (domainname.co.nz) and the www version of that domain are going to point at the same site:

A Records

<your domain name> pointing to Your Site IP address
www.<your domain name> pointing to Your Site IP address

If we host your email, the additional DNS records you should have in place for your email service are as follows:

MX Record

The MX record for the domain should point at mta.hosts.net.nz with a priority of High or Xtra High.

  • Unless you have a backup or secondary email service for the domain elsewhere, there should only be one MX record.

A Record

You should have an A record for mail.<your domain name> pointing at the IP address: 43.245.52.240

SPF Record

It is well worth having an SPF record in place for your domain name's email service. Many email providers are now using the SPF system as part of their anti-spam measures. We recommend adding the following TXT record for your domain name:

<your domain name> IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx include:_spf.hosts.net.nz ?all"
