When you own an international domain name (.com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .us, .co, .mobi or .kiwi), ICANN (the governing body) require once a year that you verify your domain contacts are up to date: https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/contact-verification-2013-05-03-en

These emails may appear suspicious, but they originate from Register.com (our Domain Registry Partner) and are sent by Freeparking Limited. You must simply follow the link presented in the email and complete the steps to verify your contact details. Here is an example of what a verification email looks like:

If you don’t verify your contact information within ICANN’s specified timeframe, your domain will be suspended by the governing body. Unfortunately, we have no power to overrule this process.

Following ICANN’s yearly verification process is the only way to avoid this happening and ensures your domain remains online.

NOTE: InternetNZ does not force this on .nz domain names.
