WordPress Multisite Domain Mapping Print

  • 0

It’s important to note that a Multisite is an advanced WordPress feature and getting it up and running can be a bit tricky, especially in cases where domain mapping is being utilised.

WordPress multisite subsites may be mapped to a non-network top-level domain. This means a site created as site1.networkdomain.co.nz, can be mapped to show as domainname.co.nz. Before setting up domain mapping, make sure your network has been correctly set up as follows:

Multisite installation

Your Multisite installation should be set to sub-domains - a domain-based network in which on-demand sites use subdomains.

Map Domains in DNS

Make sure the additional domains are parked upon the primary domain. We will do this for you - simply open a support ticket and our support team will add each domain as a secondary domain.

Install Multi-Domain SSL

Every domain should have SSL installed to ensure encrypted admin login. Multi-Domain SSL certificates (also called SAN or Subject Alternative Name certificates) give you the capability to add one SSL certificate for all domains on your Multisite. You will need to change the A record for each domain to point to your WPhost Site IP address. If your domain name is under our management, we can do this for you - simply open a support ticket.
